WHERE TRADITION
LIVES ON...

Behind the historic stone building of La Belle Hélène de Ménélas, two independent houses preserve one of the most authentic chapters in the property's history. Built from plinthos, the traditional earthen building material of the Greek countryside, they once formed part of the old farmhouse and its barns. Later, they were also used by the archaeologists of Mycenae to store archaeological finds, tools, and excavation equipment during the excavations.

Today, these spaces have been reborn with the utmost respect for their authentic identity. Their traditional architecture, natural materials, and original features from another era have been carefully preserved and harmoniously combined with modern comfort and understated luxury, creating a truly distinctive stay. From the very first moment, guests feel as though they have stepped into a traditional village house of Mycenae, without sacrificing any contemporary comforts. It is a unique experience where the simplicity of rural life, the nostalgia of the past, and the warmth of modern hospitality come together in a way that feels both authentic and perfectly balanced.

Mudbrick
Mudbrick, made from earth, water, and straw, was one of the most important traditional building materials of the Greek countryside. Thanks to its natural composition, it kept interiors cool in summer, warm in winter, and offered remarkable durability over time. Built with this authentic material, the two Barn Houses have preserved to this day the distinctive character and unique atmosphere of traditional rural life.

The West Barn House

#p2
35 sq.m. • Ground Floor • Private Courtyard

At The West Barn, the everyday life of a traditional farmhouse in Mycenae has been brought back to life in a way that feels both authentic and deeply evocative. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere transports you to another era, when simplicity, tranquillity, and warmth defined life in the Greek countryside. The whitewashed walls, reed ceiling, traditional kitchen, fireplace, old black-and-white photographs, authentic wooden chest, icon corner, and original everyday household objects create the feeling that time has stood still, reviving the character of a home that still carries the memory and spirit of the old village. The white vintage metal bed and the authentic wooden wardrobe, now discreetly transformed into a work desk, complete the character of the house without compromising its authenticity. And yet, behind this nostalgic setting lies an entirely different experience. The bathroom, finished with natural stone and reed, combines authentic architecture with a sense of understated elegance. The large vintage metal bathtub, the separate shower area featuring the original base of a historic olive press as its floor, the striking mirror with its period marble washbasin, and the authentic piece of furniture preserved from the original house create a relaxing space full of unexpected charm, offering the perfect contrast to the rustic simplicity of the home. The private courtyard, overlooking the village neighbourhood, lemon trees, and colourful flowers, completes a stay that beautifully combines the charm of the past with modern comfort and genuine hospitality.

The "Méros"

In traditional Greek homes, the word "méros" (literally meaning "the place") was used to describe the separate bathing area or toilet, which was usually located outside the main house. In the Barn Houses, this tradition is symbolically revived, as what was once the separate méros has been transformed into a distinctive experience of its own, where the refined luxury of the bathroom feels like a different world within the same home.

The East Barn House

#p1
32 sq.m. • Ground Floor • Courtyard

At The East Barn, the experience begins from the very moment you step through the authentic period wooden front door. The whitewashed walls, exposed stone surfaces, reed ceiling, traditional furnishings, and original everyday household objects beautifully recreate the atmosphere of a rural home from another era, creating the feeling that time has truly stood still. The traditional wooden plate rack, now thoughtfully transformed into a kitchen inspired by old village homes, perfectly complements the character of the space, while the authentic door of the former stable, carefully preserved and repurposed as the bathroom door, is one of the house's most distinctive features, keeping its history and memories alive. The vintage brass bed, traditional icon corner, authentic wall shelf, built-in work desk, and carefully whitewashed walls, where the natural stone is subtly revealed, complete the atmosphere of an authentic village house in Mycenae. The greatest surprise, however, awaits in the bathroom, where authenticity meets understated luxury. Stone, wood, marble, and period furniture come together to create a space of distinctive elegance, while the impressive vintage marble bathtub, positioned beside a window overlooking the private courtyard, offers a relaxing experience that recalls the refined charm of another era. The independent house features a private courtyard with a reed pergola and outdoor seating area, a fully equipped kitchen, a double bed, an open wardrobe, and every modern comfort, offering a truly unique stay where the simplicity of traditional rural life meets modern comfort and understated luxury.
